An urgent message from the Elders of Family Church:

As you know, there has once again been an intensified surge of COVID-19 in our community.  On the local level there are more positive cases and hospitalizations today than at any other point since the beginning of the pandemic.  Schools, businesses and churches are meeting to analyze the situation and consider what, if any, adjustments need to be made to operations.  That’s a frustrating reality considering we have battled this virus for the better part of the year.

Our church has not been spared from the effects of COVID.  In the last few weeks, we have had multiple members as well as staff and volunteers that are in quarantine due to either a positive test or an exposure.  We have been in contact with those individuals and families to check on their progress and to update people that we determined to be directly impacted through exposure.  

There are no easy decisions in navigating this season.  We are committed to the suggested direction of our medical experts with guidelines regarding masks and social distancing.  We have altered our sanctuary to accommodate those guidelines, placed sanitation stations throughout the building, encouraged compliance with masks, and advised staff on proper protocols.  Thank you, Family Church, for your commitment to these processes and procedures. 

Ultimately, our guide is the Word of God.  We have determined ourselves to seek God in prayer and Scripture.  In that pursuit we are working to find a balance between the physical needs and the spiritual needs of our people.  Yes, both are important and we have a responsibility to show good stewardship over the spiritual and physical health of our church.

For the next few weeks, church is going to look a little different on Sunday mornings.  Due to the recent exposures, we are working to mitigate the risk of those ministry areas that have been effected.  Please note the following adjustments starting this coming Sunday:

• We will not have children’s ministry for Sunday 11/15 or Sunday 11/22.  This includes KidzTown and nursery services.  As we did in previous months, you are welcome to bring your children with you into the sanctuary.  We offer a cry room and a lobby with the service streaming so you and your kids can take a break outside the sanctuary if needed. 

• We will not have a worship team on Sunday 11/15 or Sunday 11/22.  The majority of this ministry team is quarantining due to an exposure.  We are going to use this time of the service as a time of prayer for our community and nation.  We encourage you to come with a prayerful expectation to seek God.

Will this look and feel different?  Sure… and that’s ok.  We read in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”  We certainly intend to seek God in this time and stay committed to the responsible fellowship of believers.  

Lastly, and this is important, if you are showing any symptoms or not feeling well we implore you to stay home.  If you have a compromised immune system we implore you to stay home.  If you refuse to wear a mask while entering and exiting the service we implore you to stay home.  Please honor us in these areas while we continue to navigate this situation and work to keep our church healthy both physically and spiritually.

After getting further clarification on Sedgwick County’s ordinance concerning the wearing of face masks during church services, it will once again be optional, starting this Sunday, at Family Church. We do still encourage and recommend wearing one, and if requested, we are happy to provide you one. If you are unable or do not wish to wear a mask during the service, that is also acceptable. We have gone to great lengths to make our facility a safe place to worship. Chairs have been arranged with 6ft social distancing in mind, as well as continual professional sanitizing. May we come together this Sunday, as ONE body, with the intent to lift up Jesus Christ, and proclaim Him as Lord and Savior.

Due to the decisions made by our city officials in the last couple of days we feel as a local congregation that we need to adhere to and abide by the city ordinance, concerning the wearing of face masks. We certainly understand that there are a variety of views concerning this, but we feel the most important view is God’s view. His word tells us in Romans 13 - “ Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God . . .” Thank you for your understanding in this matter and your willingness to embrace the attitude of You before Me.

Family Church-

It has been brought to our attention that an individual that attended a wedding ceremony at our church has been confirmed positive for COVID-19.  Here are the details that we want our people to be aware of:

• The individual was in our building on Friday, June 19th and again on Saturday, June 20th.
• The building and all known touch points were professionally cleaned and sanitized the night of Saturday, June 20th, in advance of our Sunday morning service.  
• No member of the wedding party attended our Sunday morning service after contact with the infected individual.
• All guests at the wedding, including some Family Church staff and members, have been made aware of the situation and have been encouraged to take responsible measures.

We believe it’s necessary to make our people aware of the situation.  We also feel that it’s important for our people to know that we have and will continue to take the necessary precautions in our facility and with our staff to best protect against the spread of COVID-19.

The reality of the situation is that exposure is something we all must deal with in today’s world.  For how long and to what extent?  We don’t know those answers.  What we do know is that we will continue to operate safely, responsibly and by faith, not fear.  

The infected individual is not a member of Family Church.  It’s our understanding that they were without symptoms during the time of the event and are without symptoms today.  We pray for a speedy recovery for that individual and for God’s protection over those in contact during the event.

If there are any pertinent details that develop, we will be certain to inform our church family.

We are excited to announce that Sunday, June 14 will be our COMEBACK SUNDAY.

As we said last week, there is a lot involved in preparing for coming back together. So, I want to take a moment to share with you what to expect if you are planning on joining us on the 14^th.

Obviously, it’s going to look a little different than it did before Covid 19, but we feel it is necessary to do every-thing we can to provide the safest worship experience possible, for our church family.

So, with that in mind, here are some things that we feel will help make that possible.

We will be observing the suggested guidelines of the CDC and our state and local officials, regarding social distancing, and personal hygiene and responsibilities.

• If you’re in the high risk category, you may consider waiting awhile before returning.
• If you are not feeling well, or have any symptoms, such as fever, shortness of breath, or coughing PLEASE think of others and STAY HOME.
• Stay 6 ft. apart (seating in the auditorium will be arranged in a manner to best make that possible)

Here are a few other things that we feel are necessary at this time, as well:

• The facility will be completely and professionally sanitized prior to the 14^th.
• Everyone will enter at the main entrance. (A member of our guest services team will be opening the doors for everyone, so no one has to touch the door handles, and each team member will also be wearing masks.)
• Any personal touch, such as shaking hands, or hugs are greatly discouraged (let’s use wisdom)
• Hand sanitizer stations and wipes will be available in strategic areas
• Masks will be optional (but will be available to anyone who chooses to wear one)
• The coffee shop will be closed until further notice.
• No children’s classes or nurseries will be offered, at this time. (But we welcome your children in our service.) We will also have coloring packets available for them as well.
• We will also be shortening our service somewhat, to be accommodating for our families.

And one last thing

If you choose not to join us right now, because we are unable to live-stream at this time, the morning service will not be available to watch until the next day. And the worship segment will not be part of the recording. Sorry! Our plan is to be live-streaming within the next few of months.

We are all aware of the concerns occurring in the world right now regarding COVID-19, also known as the Coronavirus. As we navigate many sources of information concerning this, we wanted to share some overall thoughts as to how we as a church family can be wise and thoughtful in our response. There are a lot of questions and speculations surrounding the Coronavirus. We are unsure what the next few weeks hold, but we want to take precautions for the health and safety of our congregation. Our desire is to provide a safe environment so we can worship Jesus together as a community.
